Wineries & More!
           The Georgia Wine Highway

Georgia is home to almost 30 wineries and vineyards! On this site, we are choosing to focus on the facilities in Georgia that not only grow grapes but also produce wine on the premises. This narrows the field down to about 20--still, no mean feat for a state in the heart of Dixie that might not be the first to come to mind when thinking of American wines.

While there are a few wineries in Southern Georgia making wines with the muscadine grape, the wineries on the southern slopes of the Blueridge Mountains in Georgia make fine wines from European varietals. If you didn't know there are mountains in Georgia, don't forget, The Appalachian Trail begins in Springer Mountain, Georgia!

Many of these north Georgia wineries can be found along the beautiful and scenic Georgia Wine Highway, which stretches from I-85 Northeast of Atlanta and up Georgia Roads 53, 60 and 76.

This site will help you do your research so you can plan an enjoyable day-long or weekend-long jaunt to discover the wineries of Georgia.

       Where to Stay

There are plenty of hotels and motels in Georgia, but why stay in a McRoom when you can stay in a singular bed and breakfast? We use Bed and Breakfast Online to help us plan almost all of our trips. Considering the price of hotel rooms these days, we prefer to pay a bit extra to enjoy the company of wonderful hosts and a gourmet breakfast before setting out in the mornings. Our hands-down favorite place to stay in Northern Georgia is Cedar House Inn & Yurts. Do check it out; you'll be glad you did!

           Georgia Wineries Listing

As is the case in many southern states, Georgia has a fairly long history of failed viniculture.  In the early 80's there was a resurgance of interest in growing and producing wines using European varietals.  Due to the climatic concerns, this can be a bit tricky--for one thing, grapes like drainage, and it can rain up to 60" a year in some areas of the state!  Since this site is all about giving you an overview of Georgia wines, I won't go into a detailed history, especially because these guys did it so well.  Visit their website to read about their inn here.
